Pipeline route assessment starts - 29 Oct 2009

On-site work has started to determine the route for the water pipeline that will connect Goulburn to the Sydney Catchment Authority water supply at Wingecarribee Reservoir.

Members of the Highlands Source Project team, including Goulburn Mulwaree Council staff and engineers from project managers GHD Pty Ltd, started assessing areas where the pipeline could be laid this week. They are first considering public land, including the Council farm at Murray’s Flat and road reserves.

Letters have also been written to private landholders in areas being assessed for the pipeline.

Preparations tee off for Mayoral Charity Golf Day - 09 Oct 2009
Goulburn Mulwaree Council is calling for community involvement for the inaugural Mayoral Charity Golf Day on 29 November.

The Mayoral Charity Golf Day, an initiative of Mayor Carol James and Goulburn Mulwaree Council, is aimed at raising money for local charities and will be held at the Goulburn Golf Club.

Mayor Carol James said Council was looking for any local charitable organisations or groups who wish to become beneficiaries of the day.

Waste water treatment plant odour - 08 Oct 2009

Goulburn Mulwaree Council is advising residents in the Ross St area of Goulburn that they are likely to experience an odour from the waste water treatment plant over the next four weeks.

Council relaxes water restrictions following dust storm - 24 Sep 2009

Following the storms which swept across NSW earlier this week, cloaking parts of the State with a thick red dust, Goulburn Mulwaree Council will temporarily relax its water restrictions to allow residents a chance to clean their houses and cars.

Creative arts scholarships on offer - 17 Sep 2009

Local artists are being given the chance to apply for the latest round of funding from the Jennifer Lamb Veolia Creative Arts Scholarship.

Applications will be accepted from emerging artists seeking to pursue further study and practising artists seeking to develop a body of work.

Council unveils new initiatives in the war against noxious weeds - 10 Sep 2009

Goulburn Mulwaree Council has launched a new phone hotline in a bid to get residents to report outbreaks of serrated tussock.

The phone hotline, along with a new weeds information display in Council’s Civic Centre foyer, were launched at last night’s Rural Urban night, hosted by the Rotary Club of Goulburn. Some 100 people attended the information night held to raise public awareness of serrated tussock and other noxious weeds.

Serrated tussock is a highly invasive weed that will invade pastures, native grasslands and threatens both agricultural production and native ecological systems.

Big Merino turns blue for Prostate Cancer Awareness - 08 Sep 2009
Goulburn’s most iconic building will be feeling blue in September – and it’s all for a very good cause.

The Big Merino will be lit up blue at a special ceremony on Thursday 10 September to promote Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.

At a special ceremony, hosted by the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, Goulburn Mulwaree Council and Farmoz, the Big Merino will be bathed in blue light – the first time this Australian icon has ever changed colour to highlight an important cause. Guests will be treated to a barbecue from 5pm, with the lighting of the Big Merino at 6.30pm.

Delegation starts Chinese whispers about Goulburn Mulwaree - 04 Sep 2009
Goulburn Mulwaree Council has joined forces with three local organisations to promote the local area at the Australia-China Sister Cities Summit and Australia-China Business Summit this week.

Nearly 100 people representing businessmen, government officials and key trade organisations from more than 20 cities around China, covering a wide number of industries and presenting many opportunities, attended the summit.

The summit presented an opportunity for Goulburn Mulwaree to expand its presence in the international marketplace and explore the possibilities of cooperation with Chinese businessmen and government agencies.

New truck cleans mains, saves water - 04 Sep 2009
A specialised truck worth nearly $1 million has been cleaning out some of Goulburn’s busiest trunk main pipes – and hasn’t wasted a drop of water doing it.

Some 2km of large diameter gravity sewer trunk mains, from Grafton St to the Waste Treatment works, have been cleaned so far. It is anticipated that the truck will remove some 100 tons of debris from 3.6km of pipe by the time the project is completed.

World authority to hold rare lecture at Goulburn Regional Art Gallery - 31 Aug 2009

The Goulburn Regional Art Gallery will host a rare lecture by the Director of the Art Gallery of South Australia, who is considered one of the world’s leading figures on renowned English artist William Morris.

Goulburn Regional Art Gallery Director Jane Cush described Christopher Menz as a world authority on William Morris and his works.

"Having Christopher Menz give a lecture, which he does rarely, here is a real coup for the Goulburn Regional Art Gallery," Ms Cush said.

Project management contracts signed - 27 Aug 2009

Contracts have been signed for the Project Management and Design components of Goulburn Mulwaree Council’s Highlands Source Project.

Now that the contract has been finalised, GHD Pty Ltd have immediately started work on the pre-construction stage.

Council’s Clean Up Week on again - 25 Aug 2009

Goulburn Mulwaree Council’s Clean Up Week is coming around again and it’s time to clean out all those large unwanted waste items.

Council is keen to help residents with their spring cleaning and will be collecting through the city of Goulburn and the township of Marulan from 21 September to 25 September.

Council’s Acting Waste and Aquatic Coordinator Andrew Galland said to ensure that kerbside waste is picked up, residents should place it out the night before their scheduled collection day in a neat and tidy pile.

Heritage Grants on offer - 17 Aug 2009

Owners or managers of heritage items have until 1 September 2009 to apply for the latest round of Goulburn Mulwaree Council’s successful Heritage Grants program.

The program is designed to encourage the conservation of items that are either heritage listed or located within heritage conservation areas. Two grants of $5000 each and five grants of $1000 are available for properties in the Goulburn Mulwaree Council area. Funding is supplied by Council and the NSW Department of Planning’s Heritage Office. Successful applicants must match the grant funding dollar for dollar.

Council LEP earns Highly Commended award - 11 Aug 2009
Goulburn Mulwaree Council’s Public Exhibition of its 2009 Local Environment Plan has picked up a Highly Commended RH Dougherty Award at the 2009 Local Government and Shires Association of NSW (LGSA) annual awards night.

Entering the LEP in the Excellence in Communication category (population less than 30,000), judges praised Council’s "level of consultation and the excellent distribution" throughout the Goulburn Mulwaree community.

Gallery Director wins prestigious Fellowship - 06 Aug 2009
The Director of the Goulburn Regional Art Gallery, Jane Cush, will be heading over to Massachusetts later this year after receiving a prestigious Museums & Galleries NSW (M&G NSW) International Fellowship placement with the Boston Children’s Museum.

Founded in 1913 by a group of teachers in Boston's Jamaica Plain neighbourhood, the Boston Children’s Museum helps children understand and enjoy the world in which they live.

Council and Crescent School combine for National Tree Day - 03 Aug 2009

The Crescent School and Goulburn Mulwaree Council have combined to celebrate National Tree Day, planting nearly 40 trees around the School.

Council’s Parks Technical Officer Jason Moroney assisted the School’s students on Friday morning to plant, water and mulch the new trees, which will in time form a windbreak along the School’s driveway and carpark. Council also donated a number of native trees for the planting.

GHD set to project manage Goulburn’s water solution - 23 Jul 2009

 A company ranked 43rd in Business Review Weekly’s list of Australia’s top 500 private companies is set to manage the project that will provide drought security for the NSW City of Goulburn.

GHD Pty Ltd has been selected as the preferred tenderer for Project Management and Design Services for the Highlands Source Project, which will include a pipeline to transfer water from Wingecarribee Reservoir to Goulburn.

Negotiations will now take place between GHD and Goulburn Mulwaree Council to finalise contracts. The GHD tender is to provide Project Management and Design services for both the pre-construction (design and documentation) and construction stages.

Fountain to flow again following works - 16 Jul 2009
Goulburn Mulwaree Council has begun work on restoring the iconic Hollis Fountain in Belmore Park.

Council received $30,000 as part of the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program to undertake this work, which will allow the fountain to operate again.

Windellama residents have their say - 16 Jul 2009
Goulburn Mulwaree Council’s award-winning Community Outreach Meetings resumed this week when 30 locals gathered at the Windellama Community Hall to meet with Councillors and senior staff.

Senior staff addressed the gathering on a range of topics, with residents given the opportunity to ask questions throughout the meeting.

Chris Berry named Goulburn Mulwaree Council’s new General Manager - 10 Jul 2009

Chris Berry has been selected as the new General Manager at Goulburn Mulwaree Council.

Mr Berry had been Acting General Manager, following the resignation of Luke Johnson, since March this year.

Goulburn Mulwaree Mayor Carol James said the selection panel had been very impressed by Mr Berry’s experience, qualifications and leadership.

Vintage MGs motor into the Waterworks - 10 Jul 2009

Are you looking for something different to do this weekend? Look no further than Goulburn’s own historic Waterworks Museum, which will be open and ‘steaming’ this Sunday 12 July.

However this Sunday the Waterworks will have some special visitors, when members of the Canberra MG Club stop by for a visit.

Up to 15 vintage MG cars will be on display for visitors to admire during the day, from 10am to 3pm.

Decision on General Manager nears - 09 Jul 2009

An announcement is expected soon on the appointment of Goulburn Mulwaree Council’s new General Manager.

Mayor Carol James said the selection panel had been impressed by the range of skills and visions for Goulburn Mulwaree offered by the candidates.

"As a result of the two interviews held yesterday and the Council Extraordinary Meeting held last night, a preferred Candidate has been identified and offered the position," Cr James said.
